This one was a slog to get through. After reading C J Samson's Dominion it was interesting to read another book set in the same period. Enjoy Tolkien Reading Day–not just today, but most days! But it's not that simple Tolkien uses the word fly quite often throughout his works but usually not to mean actually flying in its modern sense. I am rather behind on posting book reviews (I finished reading this back in April, if that's any indication), so I'm playing catch-up this week. Tolkien, Arthur I'm just going to come right out and admit it: the first thing I skip when reading anything written by J.R.R. Tolkien will join together in a worldwide celebration of the late author's works for. The Hobbit is definitely worth reading, but if you find its 305 pages a little daunting then Peter Jackson's new release will do just as well. Today fans of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and the works of J.R.R. He is a master of prose and poetry, a skilled wordsmith who should be studied, discussed, and just plain enjoyed. Now it's very easy to read this as a modern reader and say look there it flew so that's that. Putting the ridiculousness of “Tolkien can't actually write” and “a stillborn postscript” aside, there is some truth to the difficulty of reading The Silmarillion. This volume includes commentary by Peter S. I was very happy to run across this book at one of my local thrift stores. Throughout the course of the books, the maps and languages are revealed to the reader in sections on a need-to-know basis as the characters traverse an increasing percentage of the world. The name Corey Olsen may already be familiar to some readers—or at least those readers who venerate the literary accomplishments of one J.R.R. My first foray into Appendix N was in 1984 or '85, in second grade — I was either seven or eight — when I read J.R.R.
